January 09 Committee Meeting Minutes
Chairman Larry Hamler called the meeting to order at 10:05am. Present were Terry Bartle, Del Grorud, Jim Amundson, Mike Brown, and Dave Lamb. Our guest was Dan Tye who heads up Drums along the Red Cedar.
The committee reviewed a joint press release to go out with the DARC press release, which highlights their upcoming 10th anniversary, the organization’s reunion, and the memorial. The organization will take care of handling the press release through the local news outlets and Dan will direct the press release to Drum Corps World and Drum Corps Planet.
The organization has purchased a block of 50 tickets for our alumni for the DARC show. This excellent seating is on the 50-yard line. Dan discussed the importance of early ticket sales in light of the economic situation and its’ overall impact on drum corps. In addition, the alumni organization will be given recognition at the show. Details of this are in the making. Ticket pricing will again be discounted the first week in February.
For our participation, DARC will provide us ad space in the program, and our website link will be on their website at each page of the site to simplify access to those browsing.
Our next breakfast is scheduled for the 25th at the VFW hall. These fund raisers our important to our efforts to make this reunion a true family event. We currently have 5 volunteers to work the breakfast and could use one more.
The Saturday reunion program will be broken down into 3 segments: 1-4pm family fun, 4-7 food (includes steaks to order and free beer…while it lasts!), 7-10pm entertainment in the main hall. We will have access to the whole “ball field” for the afternoon, complete with its own seating and outside bar. We are looking for ideas for the 1 to 4 segments.
At this point, and to maintain a timely pattern, we need the help of everyone to locate and reach out to former members. A mail-out is planned. Anyone with names/addresses should contact Larry Hamler through the website. In addition, we have the names of contacts with the old Durand corps who was also initially sponsored by the VFW and they will be asked for their interest and inclusion.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:40am.
