June 20th 2009 (the big day finally arrived)
The ‘golden era’ of drum and bugle corps earned its title Saturday night at VFW Post 305 in Eau Claire when two corps, the Durand Girls Drum and Bugle Corps and the Eau Claire Boys Drum and Bugle Corps co-celebrated their golden anniversaries.
The two corps from West Central Wisconsin perhaps made drum corps history with their jointly held 50th anniversary reunion, complete with the spirit and camaraderie one would expect. Good food, laughter with that competitive teasing still alive, and the words of wisdom from the rank and file that helped the alumni savor the moment.
Corps people sharing corps memories. Corps people recognizing all those that made corps life possible with thanks to our founders and leaders, parents and families, chaperones and instructors; those people dedicated to us to provide our lives with those great moments, and this golden opportunity.
Alumni were motivated to continue working on their corps histories and on the memorials being built or expanded, as their contribution to their respective communities.
Reunion Committee Chairman Larry Hamler encouraged the organizations to deepen their dedication not only through our website, but by staying active with the Drum and Bugle Corps Historical Society taking root on DCI, staying connected with one another, and the fostering of the preservation of drum and bugle corps in other communities.
